Writing poems: where and how to begin with Adrienne Eberhard (13-18 year olds)

  • 22 Feb 2025
  • 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • The Hobart Library

Free workshop for young people aged 13-18.

This workshop reminds us that poems can be about anything, from the ordinary to the extraordinary. Drawing inspiration from other poets, such as William Carlos Williams, Ezra Pound, Ted Hughes, Mary Oliver, Alice Oswald and Michael Ondaatje, as well as from paintings/photographs, domestic items and personal experience, you will be encouraged to explore  the everyday and the unusual as sources for poems. Whether you like the idea of writing a poem but haven't yet begun, or have written many, this workshop will provide a plethora of ideas to get you started, as well as advice about editing, polishing and finalising poems.

Adrienne Eberhard is an educator and poet.  She has taught creative writing for over 20 years, to students from Year 1 to university level, and loves to help others discover their writing talent through language games, reading wonderful poems, and wide-ranging stimulus and inspiration.

This workshop is free of charge, thanks to the support of the Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet.
