A full day workshop with Carmel Bird

Carmel will provide a range of objects, some of which may be very simple, very familiar, very strange, extremely complex or down right weird. Each participant is also asked to bring an item of inspiration.

The first hour will be given to inspiration and discussion. Thereafter, students will be writing, and Carmel will be commenting on their work, as it progresses.

Each student will be randomly offered two pieces of inspiration and will be individually coached in ways that these things might provide the spark for writing a piece of short fiction.

By the end of the day each student will have produced at least the bare bones or even a first draft of a new short story.

There will be a discussion of point of view, tense, tone, structure, language, character – and any other topics that seem relevant.

At the end of the day Carmel will award her Chinese Egg Cup to the piece of work that pleases her most.

3rd November, 10am - 5pm

Member tickets $160, Non-members $190
