From the Ordinary to the Extraordinary: Poetry Workshop with Adrienne Eberhard
This FREE workshop is for young people aged 12-18
This workshop reminds us that poems can be about anything, from the ordinary to the extraordinary. Drawing inspiration from other poets, such as Mary Oliver, William Carlos Williams, Ezra Pound, Ted Hughes, Mary Oliver, Alice Oswald and Michael Ondaatje, as well as from paintings/photographs, domestic items and personal experience, you will be encouraged to explore the everyday and the unusual as sources for poems. Whether you like the idea of writing a poem but haven’t yet begun, or have written many, this workshop will provide a plethora of ideas to get you started as well as advice about editing, polishing and finalising poems.
Adrienne Eberhard is a poet and educator. Her sixth poetry collection, a bilingual edition, translated into French by Catherine de Saint Phalle, was launched in Paris in April 2025. She has taught creative writing in schools, at university, and in the community for over 30 years, and loves to help others discover their writing talent through language games, reading wonderful poems, and wide-ranging stimulus and inspiration.

This workshop is free of charge, thanks to the support of the Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet.
