Encouraging, supporting and promoting Tasmanian stories and storytellers

Proud presenters of the biennial Hobart Writers Festival since 2015

Thank you to Jon Kudelka for Tassie, the book hungry devil logo.

Welcome to TasWriters, where writers connect for the latest information on Tasmania’s literary scene, get updates on events and find support.

We are here to help, whatever your query.

Or subscribe to our free newsletter that covers events, workshops and literary news.

Please note that we are in the process of moving the Tasmanian Writers Database to our new website. It should be available again by mid-May.

TasWriters acknowledges and pays respect to the traditional custodians of the island, the keepers of its history and stories.

May we learn to listen with open hearts to the stories of the past and commit to creating new stories together, in deference to the land and honouring the culture and humanity of those who have always cared for it.

The Tasmanian Writers Centre was incorporated in 1997 and grew out of an already strong literary community. We re-branded to TasWriters in 2018.

Originally housed in Salamanca Arts Centre on the waterfront, TasWriters now finds its home on Davey Street thanks to a generous grant from the City of Hobart.

Joining TasWriters is an excellent first step for emerging writers and support for established writers. We are not-for-profit and put all our funds into supporting literature. We offer programs for both established and emerging writers, who can access discounts, exclusive newsletters and further support by becoming a member.

We invite you to join us today.

TasWriters Office Hours are now:   Mondays, 10am-3pm

If you wish to attend the office please email first to arrange a mutually suitable time.

Newsletter items

Please send us information about your upcoming events, opportunities and writing-related activities and competitions.

The newsletter is sent out on the last day of each month. Please ensure that we receive any items in time. They should be succinct and/or just a flyer and a link to your website.

Our software does not handle pdfs, so please send items in png or jpg format, or just send text.

Also, we love to hear about our members’ success stories.

Please email us at admin@taswriters.org to be included in our monthly newsletter.
